About Me
Aloha
Hola mi nombre es Carlos. I am a bilingual Navy Veteran from Puerto Rico. In 2012, while stationed in Japan, I discovered the peace of scuba diving. The first dive after completing my AOW (Advanced Open Water), I came face to face with whale sharks. That was the moment I knew I would be doing this forever and I purchased all of my dive gear that day!
I've had the pleasure of diving throughout Japan, the middle east, California, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Florida and now Hawaii. Diving has become my permanent therapy.
While residing in the Florida Keys, I became a PADI Instructor. I quickly became connected with the adaptive diving community. While assisting with an adaptive DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) day in Miami, I met someone from Lifewaters. They recommended me to be part of the team, and I could not wait to get started. Lifewaters is an organization that focuses on adaptive diving for veterans and first responders with serious cognitive, physical, neurological and in some cases terminal injuries. I immediately set up a meeting with their CEO to see how I could get involved and have been part of the team since.
Through Lifewaters, I crossed over to SDI and got qualified as a Scubility Instructor so I can pay it forward by introducing my fellow Veteran brothers and sisters to the magic of breathing underwater, no matter the injury. My dive partner and I now reside on the Big Island of Hawaii and are able to support adaptive divers. We adapt to you, always!
My other passion is photography both above and below water. If I'm not teaching, you will almost always catch me with a camera in my hands!!!
Hermit Crab
These tiny creatures are numerous on the reef. You must look small or you will miss them!
Nudibranch
A Gold Lace Nudibranch. Hawaii has a large variety of sea slugs waiting to be discovered!
Moray Eel
A Stout Moray Eel, one among many eels hiding on the reef (and sand) here in Hawaii.
Green Sea Turtle
Around Hawaii we have cleaning stations. This turtle is getting a scrub from our local yellow tangs!
Wire Coral Goby
Found on wire corals sticking our from rock, these tiny creatures are easy to miss if you don't look.
